The Gurkha Tradition
The Gurkha soldiers of Nepal have served in the British and Indian armies for over 200 years, earning a reputation as some of the finest soldiers in the world. Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw once said: “If a man says he is not afraid of dying, he is either lying or he is a Gurkha.”
Originating from the hill districts of Nepal, Gurkhas are selected through one of the most competitive military recruitment processes in the world. Less than 1% of applicants make it through to service — a standard that produces personnel of extraordinary quality.
